چکیده

Zero-field-cooling and field-cooling FC measurements were performed on ferrofluids of cobalt magnetic nanoparticles MNPs in various organic solvent. Two peaks, one broad peak corresponding to the blocking transition TB , and one sharp peak corresponding to the melting of the solvent TM , were observed. Furthermore, for a given MNP size, when the blocking and melting transitions were superposed by choosing an appropriate solvent, the strongest intensity of the sharp peak at the melting point of the organic solvent was obtained. This observation is explained by applying the M spectrum theory. Additionally, a first order, melting-induced magnetic phase transformation was observed at the melting point of the solvent. Associated with the first order phase transition and the supercooling effect, a thermal hysteresis loop in the FC curve was observed. © 2010 American Institute of Physics. doi:10.1063/1.3350901

Aggregation in ferrofluids studied by Neutron Small Angle Scattering

2014 Neutron Small Angle Scattering has been used to follow processes of particle aggregation in ferrofluids under various conditions of temperature and externally applied magnetic field. Cobalt particles, stabilized in toluene by one of two surfactant materials, showed neutron scattering characteristic of highly aggregated systems. Low temperature quenching in a strong magnetic field caused ph...

Brownian magnetic relaxation of water-based cobalt nanoparticle ferrofluids

Following the synthesis of monodispersed 20 nm cobalt nanoparticles via a thermal decomposition method we have successfully transferred these hydrophobic nanoparticles into the water phase using tetramethylamonium hydroxide pentahydrate as phase transfer agent and 12-aminododecanoic acid as a stabilizing agent. Frequency dependent ac susceptibility of water-based cobalt nanoparticle ferrofluids...

A short review on Ferrofluids surface modification by natural and biocompatible polymers

This paper provides an overview of how the surface properties of ferromagnetic nanoparticles dispersed in fluids is modified by natural and biocompatible polymers. Among common magnetic nanoparticles, magnetite (Fe3O4) and maghemite (g-Fe203) are popular candidates because of their biocompatibility. Natural polymeric coating materials are the most commonly used biocompatible magnetic nanopartic...

Magnetization of ferrofluids with dipolar interactions: A born-mayer expansion

For ferrofluids that are described by a system of hard spheres interacting via dipolar forces we evaluate the magnetization as a function of the internal magnetic field with a Born-Mayer technique and an expansion in the dipolar coupling strength. Two different approximations are presented for the magnetization, considering different contributions to a series expansion in terms of the volume fr...
